Cold Noses, Warm Hearts

In mid January, 2016, Farah Ravon, the United States representative for Vafa Animal Shelter visited the dogs and cats at the sanctuary.

Vafa Animal Shelter has partnered with Home for Life to provide care to animals across the world. Home for Life has accepted several dogs and two cats from Vafa's shelter. Farah wanted to check up on the progress of the animals previously in the care of Vafa.

International Rescues

DID YOU KNOW? At Home for Life Sanctuary, we care for animals from all over the United States and also many foreign countries.

Currently, about 10 % of our animals come from other countries, and we care for dogs and cats who have come to us from Thailand, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Mexico, Canada, Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Some ask why we would help animals from other countries, and wonder how these animals find their way to Home for Life from thousands of miles away.

Home for Life's sponsor program provides lots of subject matter for student volunteer!

Home for Life volunteer Susie Kixmoeller, a sophomore at Blake School, is an avid photographer with an interest in pursuing her interest professionally someday.

Pictured at the right are Susie and her parents meeting famous photographer William Wegman at our annual Fall Fancy Feast.

This late summer, she spent the day with us at the sanctuary photographing our animals for our sponsorship program!

This year we were so happy to welcome our special guest photographer William Wegman, a longtime Home for Life supporter and world famous photographer. Thank you to our event sponsors for making this year's event possible. We would also like to thank donors to our live and silent auction and everyone who attended at the beautiful Walker Art Center, a new venue for us.

The Story of the Year at Home for Life is featured

Our latest mailing to our supporters features what has had to be the story of the year at Home for Life. It is the rescue of Rory, a beautiful hound, who was left tied to our gate by an anonymous person. Abandoned in the cold at Home for Life last November 30, 2014; Rory, was starving, cold, scared and very pregnant. The very next day, she gave birth to TEN adorable puppies, all of whom survived, and the adventure began!

Cats in the Sun, Dogs on the Run: Mark Luinenburg Photographs a Summer of fun Home for Life

It has been one of the most beautiful summers ever at Home for Life with mostly perfect weather all season long. From the start of summer to the week of Labor Day, the animals at the sanctuary have made the most of our favorite season with frequent exercise time in our meadows to swimming in the Apple River to basking in the sun.  When it's icy and cold, we'll look back at these photos and remember how green and filled with sunshine this summer was. Below are some of our favorites from Mark's shoots at Home for Life during  the summer of 2015.

SAVE THE DATES!

With the warmer temperatures and spring  here at last, it's time to think about getting out of the house again! As you plan  your social schedule for 2015 don't forget about your four legged friends at Home for LIfe; we have a couple of great events coming up this year that you won't want to miss.

The Coolest Time of Year: Featuring the photos of Mark Luinenburg

Another year, another winter at Home for Life. As the country braces for another onslaught of cold and snow this week, it's business as usual at Home for Life. Our facility is spread out over several acres so contending with winter weather has always been a fact of life at the sanctuary.  When we designed the sanctuary we wanted to give our animals, particularily our dogs, as much room as possible and the freedom to go in or outside as they pleased.

Dog abandoned in sub-zero temperatures gives birth to 10 puppies !

On the morning of November 30, on a cold and blustery winter morning (air temperature -3, windchill  - 25!) one of our staff members received an unexpected call at the gate. Home for Life's front gate has a callbox so people can contact us up at the facility. A man's voice came over the intercom and said "Hey! did you  know there was a dog tied to your gate?!" He then hung up.
