Muffy

Muffy is a one year-old miniature schnauzer who has spina bifida. Muffy originally came from breeder that was going to euthanize her due to the deformity. A representative of the illinois rescue bought the young dog to save this fate, however group did not believe they could find an adoptive home for her and the foster caretaker was overwhelmed with her care (her condition causes her to not always realize that she needs go bathroom, resulting in accidents make it tough live with).

Despite these problems, the rescue felt that Muffy knew she was special and had a true desire to live. Arrangements were made with Pilots N Paws for Muffy's transport from Illinois to Home for Life. Pilots N Paws is a service that joins animal rescue groups with pilots and plane owners willing to assist with the animals' transportation.

Being young as well as shy, we thought Muffy would be intimidated by the raucous small dog community, so we placed her in the feline leukemia building with some of our older, gentler dogs. These dogs readily accepted Muffy. Monty, another young dog, was thrilled to have a playmate his own age. Once Muffy got her bearings and realized that no one would hurt her, her true terrier personality emerged. She quickly learned how to use the dog door, learning from the other dogs not to fear the door flap. Because she can go outside whenever she wants, she only rarely makes a mess.

Muffy is a true member of her new canine family, joining in the chorus of barks that erupts when other dogs pass by or when it's time for exercise or treats.

Muffy was also the first dog to arrive at Home for Life with a wardrobe! The staff enjoys dressing Muffy up in her various outfits, which include a hula skirt, a dress, assorted jackets, and T-shirts bearing sassy sayings in sequins! Muffy doesn't have a lot of time to play dress-up these days; since she has arrived at Home for Life, her days are full of play and fun.
