Home for Life® memorials
2011

At Home for Life®, each dog and cat is special to us. Yet, we recognize that the animals we lovingly care for do not live forever.

When one of our residents passes, we take time to reflect on that animal's gift to us and to the sanctuary. The following residents passed on recently. We are honored to have been part of their lives.

We thank the generous donors who sponsored these animals and share in their loss.

Loki was the most loving, playful, wonderful dog you could possibly imagine and our friend Julie Folstad was blessed with his adoring companionship for many years. Loki had a wonderful "smile," adorable ears, and loved to cuddle and give kisses. He recently passed away after a brave and uncomplaining battle with cancer. His unconditional love was the one thing Julie could count on through many tough times. She is bereft without her "baby" and will never forget how sweet and affectionate he was.

Loki, we honor your memory in recognition of the love you gave with all your heart to our friend. May your soul find peace and contentment in a life well lived. You gave everything you had. Good boy. With love,

My husband, Jim Sanning, died on September 30th. We both loved animals and have had rescued dogs and cats for many years. We asked that memorials be made in his name to Home for Life®. "Do not stand at my grave and weep; I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow; I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the autumn's gentle rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush. Of quiet birds in circled flight, I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry: I am not there, I did not die." In Loving Memory of James E. Sanning

dogEarlier this year, we lost our dearest Carrie (Susie) Lu, a sweet dog we adopted in September, 2006. She was 10-years-old when we took her home, but we wanted to make the last years of her life filled with love. Our dog story began in 1995 when we rescued our first dog, Kerry, a beautiful American Eskimo from my Mother-in-law's neighbor. My mother-inlaw passed in 1999 and her 3 dogs came to live with us. Then, we fell in love with Big Mack who lived on the OTHER side of my Mother-in-law. Big Mack was the reason I had first heard of Home for Life®. He was a challenge and most likely not adoptable so we weren't sure if we should keep him. Every time I thought about driving him to Minnesota and dropping him off, my heart would break. The rest is history. We lost our boy April 3, 2006. Our time with him was also short, but long enough to change us forever. We decided to wait to rescue another dog and have been doing some dog sitting. Bagel was our latest guest. He was rescued by his people when they were on vacation—someone left a box of puppies in front of a store. Bagel found a wonderful home and he is a great dog (we miss him and his ball). In hopes of helping in the future. Sincerely,
–Laura Topping
