for Life® was the lead story on the November 25 edition of
Minnesota Bound, an award-winning outdoors program hosted by journalist
Ron Schara and his Labrador retriever Raven.
The story told viewers about HFL's mission and programs, and about the animals' lives at the sanctuary. Viewers were also treated to some great footage of dogs in the exercise yard, cats being pampered by staff, and other daily sanctuary happenings.

In a story titled Helping Dogs Help Delinquents, Star Tribune reporter Chris Havens told readers about HFL's Renaissance Program at Boys Totem Town, a program that teaches young HFL dogs how to become therapy dogs, under the tutelage of the teenage boys who live there. At the same time, the boys learn patience, understanding, and new skills. Read the article online or download the scanned article (PDF).

In her article, "The importance of confinement-free housing to sheltering animals successfully," Irene Muschel describes the positive difference that spacious living quarters and ample opportunities for play and social interaction can make in animals' lives—especially animals in shelters or sanctuaries.
Irene's article was inspired by her visit to Home for Life® this spring. In fact she encourages donors to visit facilities before making a donation, to make sure that the recipient organization provides confinement-free housing for its animals.
Irene Muschel lives in New York, NY. All of her own pets are enrolled in Home for Life's Angel Care Program. Her article was reprinted with permission in our Fall 2007 Newsletter.

Moppet
and Pooh, two of HFL's disabled dogs, appeared on WCCO News on January 4!
The story featured John and Sonia Lambert of K9 Hydrotherapy, who provide an invaluable service to dogs in need of physical therapy.
John worked with Pooh, a quadriplegic Doberman who was shot in the back before coming to the sanctuary, and who lost mobility over a period of 18 months. While Pooh had a cart, he was able to use it much more effectively after working with John. Moppet, who also uses a cart, may well walk again someday with continued therapy on the underwater treadmill.
