JUNE 8 , 2013 Dog Day 5k
HOME FOR LIFE is the “Best in Show” sponsor for this 4th Annual Event celebrating fitness, fun and "fido". Whether you walk it or jog it, with a dog or without, this event is all about fun.
Set in downtown Waconia, the Dog Day 5K is sure to be one of the highlights of summer for you and your furry friend.
The Event 5K/3.1 mile run or walk (for people) with or without your dog! Please note that there is a human only 5K that day as well but dog lovers can run the Dog Day 5k with or without a dog.
The Place: Downtown Waconia, MN
Anticipated Participants: 2,000; 500 4 legged :)
Activities: Pro Plan “Achieving Greatness” activities including:
- Live Performance Demonstrations from the Pro Plan Performance Team of professionally trained rescue dogs, including agility and freestyle flying disc
- Performance camps –Local dog owners can participate in a free on-site performance camp featuring agility training
- Pet Training Advice – Receive pet training and nutrition advice from Nadja Palenzuela, Pro Plan Performance Team trainer
- Pet Adoption – Learn about pet adoption opportunities from several local pet rescue organizations that will be on hand with adoptable pets
- Purina Pro Plan Samples – Take home a sample of high-quality Purina Pro Plan brand dog and cat food

The Face of the Race:
Want to support Home for Life at the Dog Day5k from the comfort of your couch? Make a pledge to Home for Life donor and sponsor Erin Ward and Nike, Home for Life's paraplegic Alaskan Husky, representing all our animals, as they run the Dog Day 5k to raise money for the sanctuary. More about Nike.

July 27th: Ride for Their Lives, Blessing of the Animals, and Open House
Home for Life welcomes our donors and sponsors for tours of the sanctuary beginning the first weekend after Memorial Day, We offer tours each WEDNESDAY and SATURDAY at 1: 30 pm Please call at 1-800-252-5918 or email us at info@homeforlife.org to set up a time to visit.
For those who are not yet supporters of Home for Life, we offer an opportunity to visit Home for Life at our OPEN HOUSE, Annual Ride for Their Lives Motorcycle event and Memorial Garden event, be part of our touching Memorial Garden event, where the cats and dogs who have passed away the previous year are remembered and cherished. This year our Open House, Ride and Memorial Garden event is scheduled for SATURDAY JULY 27 at NOON. A complimentary luncheon will be served. This event is FREE but please RSVP so we can get a count for lunch. We look forward to seeing many of you soon! Temple Grandin's books "Animals in Translation" and "Animals Make Us Human" were both on the New York Times best seller list. "Animals Make Us Human" was also on the Canadian best seller list. Her life story has also been made into an HBO movie titled "Temple Grandin, staring Claire Danes." The movie shows her life as a teenager and how she started her career.
