Candy is a 20 year-old male Moluccan cockatoo. He had four homes before coming to live at Home For Life®.
Candy is a gregarious bird whose hobbies include woodworking and meeting new people. He is HFL's official mascot who greets all visitors to the sanctuary. He is quite smart and can speak in full sentences! Visitors can also see ample evidence of Candy's woodworking projects on our door frames and window sills!
Always keenly interested in the goings-on at the sanctuary, Candy can often be found perching on the back of the futons, looking out the windows. He also uses the cat doors to venture outside in the cat run for some sun and fresh air. The more activity at Home For Life® the better, as far as Candy is concerned.
Candy and HFL's six other resident parrots were originally rescued by the Midwest Avian Adoption and Rescue Service (MAARS). The birds have their own outdoor aviary that they enjoy when the weather is nice. In colder weather, they take their exercise out of their cages in a sunny room with big windows and skylights.
